In the early 1960s, the Falck-Hillarp fluorescence method became an important tool for visualizing dopamine, noradrenaline, adrenaline, serotonin and related substances in tissues. A stubbornly surviving myth claims that this method was created in a single day on the basis of previous chemical experiments, but in reality it took considerable time to develop the method.
Here the true story behind the development of the Falck-Hillarp fluorescence method is presented.
